Kayla, firstly, you should have had a lawyer present during any questioning and the Captain's Mast. Secondly, you should not have admitted to anything. Thirdly, you gave them everything they wanted. Fourthly, the lawyer could have softened the blow against you; i.e., you may have been able to stay in the Navy with reduced penalties or no penalty at all.

She sounds like she was a really good member of the Navy. Everyone makes mistakes. I personally wish they could have let her go but....like Billy Budd, the Navy just can't do it.

What she did went against the rules and the Navy punished her accordingly. Whats sad is we live in a society where we have to struggle to get the basic necessities of life. If this country really wants people to "pull themselves up by their bootstraps" then it needs to make sure we have bootstraps in the first place regardless of what mistakes we've made.

Navy1969 to 73 hated the navy but better than dying in Vietnam. I learn to weld cut repair ships. Became mean and strong, got out ,got hired as a union Ironworker and fit right in with the wild men. I thank the navy for the education in to danger and pain and the back bone to stand my ground.

I don’t even have to watch this video to the end. You admitted to drug use, your guilty and good riddance. There is absolutely no place for recreational drug use in the armed forces. It’ll get you, or worse yet , your fellow service members injured or killed. You want to be a dumb ass kid, stay home and be a dumb ass kid. I sure the hell don’t have any use for you.

You enlist and take an oath. In the Military there are many rules and regulations that must be followed. The zero tolerance drug Policy should be taken very seriously at all times. Get through the time You signed up for. That Honorable Discharge I have hanging on my wall was earned through sheer determination. Yes I had some bad NCO's who I thought were a little out of line and took sides but I got through it all! Most of my time was spent overseas. I was Very Happy when it was time to go Home. Its not an easy Job By any Means and the grind of Military Life can get to you if you let it! I was Young then, and I guess that is the Main reason I do miss the Military! I am Proud of my Time served!

In 1980 I was a brown shirt on the Roosevelt. I saw men die from stupidity. It is the most dangerous job in the world bar none! You have to be alert to everything at every moment! I was scared but I did my job and lived to tell about it. Most people have no idea what dangerous is until they work the flight deck on an aircraft carrier.

I gave my youth and my health for our nation. I have to live the rest of my life with that decision. I still have all 10 fingers and toes that still work so I got out lucky. The military, our nation, it’s culture, it’s people, is not all what it’s cracked up to be. I was very foolish gambling at such a young age. Don’t feel bad about your choice. Because most people don’t give a crap about you.

You make it sound as though the navy was in the wrong and that she should hold a grudge against the organization for doing what they're supposed to do. She was well aware of the consequences long before she decided to take the risk.
